PMC2014 – Custom Pyramidas by Famed Bandai Designer Tsuyoshi Nonaka

Posted on August 26, 2014 at 5:00 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, Super Sentai

One of the most underrated guests from this year’s Power Morphicon was Tsuyoshi Nonaka, the man behind numerous designs and mechas from Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, and the creator of the Soul of Chogokin series of figures targeted to adult collectors. Tsuyoshi Nonaka was in attendance at this year’s Power Morphicon and brought with him a custom rebuild of the classic Power Rangers Zeo Pyramidas, which was the carrier zord of the Gold Ranger (or if you prefer, the Kingranger‘s mecha King Pyramidder).

Check out these images of the BEAUTIFUL custom by clicking the story title. Join in the discussion and share your thoughts! Don’t you think it’s time the Power Rangers community got some of the same amazing customizers that frequent the Transformers fandom?

S.H. Figuarts Tiger Ranger Gallery

Posted on August 25, 2014 at 2:53 am by Den-O under Power Rangers, Super Sentai

Dino Buckler!

It’s time folks! The final S.H. Figuarts release from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger is here! Recently released as a Tamashii Web Exclusive in Japan, today we’re looking at S.H. Figuarts Tiger Ranger!

Tiger Ranger is the final member to be released to complete your team of Zyurangers or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and man does this figure pack a punch! Included with Boi are of course the trade mark weapons he needs like his Saber Daggers. But also thrown in there is the final piece to complete the mighty Howling Cannon AKA the Power Blaster from MMPR! As another excellent release based around the Zyuranger body, S.H. Figuarts Tiger Ranger is the perfect final addition to any Zyuranger or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Collection.

There’s also a female bodied version of this figure just released by Bluefin as the original MMPR Yellow Ranger for North American markets. So there hasn’t been a release of this actual Tiger Ranger figure seen here in domestic markets outside Japan. As is this guy is starting to fetch a pretty penny on the secondary market so if you’d rather own this version you may want to look sooner than later. And if you’re interested to see the female bodied Yellow Ranger we’ll have a gallery of it coming up later this week as well!

For now if you’d like to check out a 70 image gallery of S.H. Figuarts Tiger Ranger then click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post to be taken right to the thread!

Bandai/Banpresto W Hero Summer Festival Images

Posted on August 7, 2014 at 3:58 pm by Den-O under Conventions, Kamen Rider, Other Conventions, Super Sentai

As Bandai of Japan & Banpresto hold their annual summer toy festival we’re seeing a lot of what we’ve seen before in terms of our favorite Japanese heroes. However a few new items have snuck out and onto display that we haven’t quite seen yet. In some cases we’ve got better shots of a few things we’ve only glimpsed til now.

On display at the moment are the various minipla from Ressha Sentai ToQger including the upcoming Safari Ga Oh as well as several other combinations like Cho Cho ToQ Dai Oh. But of special note is the upcoming Rainbow Clear SP set of ToQ Oh & Diesel Oh! This set was initially revealed via an imageless Amiami pre-order but now we can see them in their wonderful translucent glory.

While we’re on ToQger some new vinyls have also been unveiled which will definitely please fans of the series. Joining the likes of General Schwartz & the Kuros is Baron Nero of the Shadow Line! On top of that we have some ToQ Changed versions of  ToQ 1 in Pink & Yellow!

Topping things off for Kamen Rider Gaim is the previously revealed DX Yomi Lock Seed & Arms Change Ryugen Yomotsu Heguri Arms which are also on display here. Finally have some better close up shots of the pair. And the placard next to Ryugen apparently confirms that he will indeed come with the Overlord’s weapons! And not to be left out Banpresto has some more Dual Solid Hero Kamen Rider figures on display as well!

Shout Factory Officially Announces Zyuranger DVD’s!

Posted on July 25, 2014 at 11:14 pm by Den-O under Conventions, San Diego Comic Con, Super Sentai

Straight from the just concluded Shout Factory SDCC panel we have a huge official announcement from the company. A complete series release of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, fully subbed, is happening!

That’s right folks, the show from which Mighty Morphin Power Rangers drew it’s source material will be released on a complete series DVD set with full subtitles! And chances are that with Shout Factory’s history of including incredible extras, this set will have some great surprises! When asked about the release itself Shout Factory’s Brian Ward confirmed that this was Saban Brands idea. So this came directly from them, as in Saban approached Shout Factory about putting this release together.

While at the panel we also asked about the black sheep of the Saban Tokusatsu family, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. This often forgotten but excellent series is a personal favorite of mine and I was curious as to whether it could ever see a release. Brian Ward put it this way, there are legal rights issues to releasing certain series such as Mystic Knights and he went on to specifically mention that Masked Rider falls into that same category. The rights for shows like this don’t necessarily sit in Saban Brands hands, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t happen.

Talkin Toku Episode 014 – Pre SDCC 2014 Show and Reaction to Roberto Orci on MMPR Movie

Posted on July 21, 2014 at 5:48 pm by Chris under Conventions, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, Super Sentai

It’s a busy week for the hosts of the Talkin Toku Podcast!

Joining Kickback/Chris, Den-O/Jordan, and Sentai Tamashii/Tom is none other than Deefuzz/Dan, known for his work with the PreOrder 66 Podcast. This means the entire news team covering this year’s SDCC is altogether for a podcast to discuss everything they’re looking forward to at SDCC 2014!

First things first – the group shares their thoughts and reactions to the news of Roberto Orci as the executive producer for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie. Is it good news or bad news? How can he take the premise of Power Rangers and turn it in to a successful movie franchise? The guys discuss!

The topic quickly turns to SDCC 2014 – the guys talk about the coverage plans, tease at some stuff they can’t announce that are planned for SDCC 2014, and of course, they talk toys – what toys they want, what toys they don’t want, etc. Are any of them planning to grab the Bandai of America toys this year? And exactly what secret item is Kickback/Chris planning to bring home to his lady friend?

The show ends with the group discussing conventions in general and in specific TFCon Chicago, where they make plans on-air to attend the show together. D’aww.

Zyuranger Meets Mighty Morphin at Power Morphicon

Posted on July 21, 2014 at 12:36 pm by Chris under Conventions, Kamen Rider, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, Super Sentai

Today was one of the biggest announcements yet for this year’s Official Power Morphicon convention. Promising an unbelievable announcement for today’s guest revealing was an understatement – fans of Power Rangers and Super Sentai now have a reason to come together.

Headlining today’s guest announcement is Yuuta Mochizuki, better known as Geki the Tyranno Ranger from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, the series that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was adapted from. Basically, the original Red Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Tyranno Ranger from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger will be appearing at a convention together for possibly the first and only time.

Also from the press release sent directly from the Official Power Morphicon convention comes the announcement that Hiroshi Maeda, a professional Japanese stunt actor, will be appearing at the show. You’ll know him best as the stunt actor for Tyranno Ranger in Zyuranger, as well as numerous other Red Rangers for the Power Rangers franchise. And last but not least – Yasuhiro Takeuchi, another Japanese stunt actor who played both Dragon Ranger in Zyuranger as well as the Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. On top of that, he has also worn many of the Megazord suits for filming.

The Official Power Morphicon convention happens August 22nd to August 24th at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California. Tickets are still available (but only for a couple of more weeks) – click here to begin your registration process so you don’t miss out!

Please read the full press release after the jump!

Saban Brands Lawyers Up on Chroma Squad – Wants Royalties

Posted on July 20, 2014 at 5:22 pm by Chris under Power Rangers, Super Sentai

We haven’t talked much about it here, but there’s this awesome indie game being created, thanks to a crowd-funded Kickstarter, called Chroma Squad! The premise behind the game was that you created your own Super Sentai television show – complete from picking the Rangers, the actors, and played the game in a semi-RPG style to gain ratings, more funding, and unlock cool things as you progressed through your created season. The game was successfully funded through Kickstarter on August 21st, 2013 at $97,148 with a goal of $55,000.

However, the villain that faces the Chroma Squad right now isn’t digital or even made of rubber – it’s made of suits that represent Saban Brands, owners of the Power Rangers intellectual property across the globe, which of course, is adapted from Super Sentai. According to an E-mail sent to backers of the Kickstarter, Saban Brands has threatened to sue the developers if they continue to release the game … unless they agree to split royalties. Now, as many note, Chroma Squad is more based on Super Sentai than it is anything Power Rangers, but alas – Saban Brands does own the adaption rights nearly worldwide for Super Sentai.

Either way, the fan community is split – those who followed and backed the Chroma Squad project are angry. There are others who didn’t follow it because they weren’t interested and they don’t seem to care either way. This only begs the question – why can’t Saban Brands go after something that calls itself Power Rangers, has those involved referring to themselves as Power Rangers (even to sick kids in hospitals), has names directly taken from Power Rangers, and has potentially ripped off hundreds of fans for tens of thousands of dollars? Especially instead of something that doesn’t refer to itself as such and was going to be made simply to give a lot of video game fans who enjoy Super Sentai and Power Rangers a chance to live out their imagination? If you need some help Haim Saban, we’re more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Sound off #RangerNation … is Saban Brands going too far? Or are they justified in their decision? We’d love to hear your thoughts! Stay tuned for further updates on this story.
