Kamen Rider Zero-One’s Suit Actor Revealed: Meet Yuya Nawata!

Posted on August 10, 2019 at 7:00 pm by Kiryu under Kamen Rider

Kamen Rider Zero-One represents the end of an era in more ways than one. Seiji Takaiwa is a name that most fans of Tokusatsu will be familiar with. For those unfamiliar: he’s a stunt actor that started with Kamen Rider Black RX as Riderman and has since gone to perform stunt work for every single titular Heisei Kamen Rider with the exception of Kamen Rider Kuuga. He also did stunt work in Super Sentai as various Red Ranger and DragonRanger from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger.

In an article by Dengeki Hobby, it was confirmed that the legendary suit actor will be passing the torch to Yuya Nawata whom will be performing the suit stunt work for Kamen Rider Zero-One.

Yuya Nawata’s been around the Tokusatsu scene since Kamen Rider Hibiki. Most recently, he performed the suit work for Kamen Rider Geiz in addition to Kamen Rider Cronus and Amazon Neo Alpha.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Takaiwa is retiring just yet but it seems that his involvement with lead roles will lessen somewhat. Kamen Rider Zero-One will be premiering September 1st 2019, we’ll be sure to provide you with more updates on this exciting new entry into the Kamen Rider series. In the meantime, make the jump to our discussion thread and let us know what you think of this latest update.

SDCC Lightning Collection Dragon Shield Red Ranger & Zeo Gold Ranger Gallery

Posted on August 7, 2019 at 1:23 pm by Den-O under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

“Back to action!”

It’s so fitting that in the first full year with the brand under new ownership, and with the recent announcement of this particular actor’s return, that Hasbro’s first convention exclusive would be centered around the ranger who began it all. Austin St. John is fondly remembered by fans old and young as Jason Lee Scott, both the original Red Ranger as well as the Zeo Gold Ranger. And this exclusive Lightning Collection two-pack celebrates both ahead of the character’s upcoming return for Power Rangers Beast Morphers in 2020!

Both of these figures are new mold entries for Lightning Collection. While similar in design and articulation layout to previous figures in the line, each brings something new to the table. The Dragon Shield Red Ranger is a wonderful figure that is absolutely armed to the teeth with Blade Blasters, the Dragon Dagger, and even a complete (and functional!) Power Blaster! Toss in a civilian head for display and this is a near perfect figure for MMPR fans. The Zeo Gold Ranger is likewise the kind of do-over many collector’s have hoped for since Bandai America’s cheese colored attempt at the character last year.  With two versions of the Golden Power Staff, an energy effect to compliment them, and another unique civilian Jason head, you have all the display options you could possibly need with this one too!

This two-pack cements Hasbro’s Lightning Collection as absolutely the best collector oriented line the franchise has ever gotten. We’ve packed 120 images into this gallery and we had a ton of fun doing it. Check out the full gallery and read through our complete review by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. And don’t forget! If you haven’t been able to purchase this set yet, it will be going up for sale on Hasbro Pulse later this month. So be sure to keep an eye out for it.

Power Rangers Lightning Collection Psycho Blue Revealed

Posted on August 4, 2019 at 11:52 am by Kiryu under Power Rangers

LET’S ROCKET!

Our friends at Hasbro are showing no signs of stopping the Lightning Collection hype train any time soon! Just last week, they revealed a Lightning Collection two-pack containing the Lost Galaxy Red Ranger and the villainous Psycho Red from Power Rangers in Space, and it was just recently revealed that his fellow Psycho Ranger: Psycho Blue will be joining the ranks.

As you might recall, we first caught wind of a Lightning Collection Psycho Blue Ranger thanks to a solicitation that was found on a computer at EB Games Canada back in early January. Tthough it hasn’t been confirmed at the time of this writing, the safe assumption will be that this figure will likely be a retailer exclusive to GameStop/EB Games.

None the less, we can expect Lightning Collection Psycho Blue to retail for $19.99 USD or $32.99 Canadian with a supposed release sometime in the fall.

SDCC Toei Spider-Man Hot Wheels Spider Machine GP-7 Gallery

Posted on July 30, 2019 at 12:44 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, San Diego Comic Con, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

“I am the emissary of Hell!
And I shall fight this great evil for the fate of all spiders!”

400 years ago, Professor Monster came to invade Earth with his Iron Cross Army. Active once again in 1978, his legions would cross paths with the young motocross racer Takuya Yamashiro. With a fate greater than he knew, Takuya was both destined to lose his father to Iron Cross, and encounter the strange race of the Planet Spider. Now infused with the Spider Extract, and given command of the mighty Spider-Machine GP-7 and Marveller, Takuya has become the Spider-Man! This Emissary of Hell will fight to defend the Earth for as long as it takes to stop Professor Monster and his hordes!

The classic 1978 Toei produced Spider-Man series has become a cult classic in the US, particularly after the character’s involvement in Marvel Comics Spider-Verse event series  (which the above quote comes from). Mattel has been the first toy company to capitalize on the series US popularity with merchandise though, giving us the SDCC exclusive Hot Wheels Spider Machine GP-7! A welcome addition for any 1/64 Hot Wheels collector, and a wonderful one for any fan of Spider-Man, the Spider Machine is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

We’ve got a full 50 image gallery of the Spider Machine GP-7 after the jump as well as a full review. Just click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post to see it all. Next time, we dive into another SDCC Exclusive from Hasbro’s Power Rangers Lightning Collection line!

S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Zi-O Build Armor Gallery

Posted on July 27, 2019 at 4:31 pm by Den-O under Kamen Rider, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

In the immortal words of Woz,
“Rejoice! He is heir to the power of all riders”.

Kamen Rider Zi-O is nearing it’s end and the impending start of the Reiwa Era of Kamen Rider is on the horizon. And as this series and the Heisei Era come to an end, Tamashii Nations has just released the first of Zi-O’s power ups in figure form. S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Zi-O Build Armor is the first stepping stone along Sougo Tokiwa’s path to the future where he rules. Will he be a benevolent overlord, or succumb to the evils of Oma Zi-O? Time will tell.

For now, we’re tackling this first in a line of Zi-O Armor Time upgrades in the same we always have, with a comprehensive gallery & review! Zi-O Build Armor set the standard for what was to come with many of the shows’ various power ups as well as many that never made it in. This figure likewise sets an incredibly solid & stable standard for how the Zi-O line should progress from here on. A stylish figure with tons of personality inherited from both of it’s parent designs, and armed with the Drill Crusher Crusher (yes!) it’s an excellent addition to the power set of this benevolent overlord.

Check out a full 50+ images of S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Zi-O Build Armor after the jump by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post.  If you’d like to take a look back at the designs that influence this figure you can check out our galleries of Kamen Rider Build Rabbit/Tank Form and Kamen Rider Zi-O!

S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Kiva Gallery

Posted on July 23, 2019 at 3:58 pm by Den-O under Kamen Rider, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

“WAKE UP!”

Shy, anxious, fearful, Wataru Kurenai would rather craft violins like his father Otoya. But as the son of the Fangire Queen as well, he was destined to become Kamen Rider Kiva, the Fangire King! And like the King’s before him Wataru has one trusted partner, a member of the Kivat family, Kivat Bat III. With Kivat in tow, Wataru sets out to fight Fangires and protect humanity, just as his father did (occasionally) 20 years prior. Now it’s time to break the chains on a review we’ve waited years for with S.H. Figuarts Shinkocchou Seihou Kamen Rider Kiva!

As the Heisei Era ends, Tamashii Nations has at long last delivered on the promise of completing the 20 Heisei Riders! With Kamen Rider Kiva, the entire lineup of main riders is complete, and let me say, it’s incredibly satisfying. Kiva brings to a close an era of incredible heroes and does so in gorgeous fashion. With the trademark accuracy and engineering of the Seihou line, Kiva looks as though he walked right off the set. Including his 6 Fuestles, the Hell’s Gate leg for his Rider Kick, a Ridewatch Tamashii Stage, and the ever present Kivat Bat III, Kiva is a tremendously welcome sight to any Kamen Rider collection.

You can check out our full 100 image gallery below by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums at the bottom of this post. It features not only the 20 Heisei Riders, but also as many Kiva cameos as I could make happen including TV riders Ixa, Rising Ixa, Emperor Kiva, & Dark Kiva, movie villains Kamen Riders Rey and Arc, & even Decade’s own Kiva-La! Please join in the discussion and let us know what you think of this release which finally closes out the Heisei Era. Next time, it’s Armor Time with a brand new gallery from Kamen Rider Zi-O!
