Power Morphicon 2014 Exclusive Ranger Key Set Gallery

Posted on October 6, 2014 at 3:39 pm by Den-O under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

Titanium Power!
Jungle beast, spirit unleashed!

TokuNation is back with another in our series of Titanium Powered galleries. But this time there’s a dose of something extra! With today’s gallery we take a look at the recently released Power Morphicon 2014 Exclusive Ranger Key Set! This set includes two of the most hotly demanded characters from Bandai’s Morphin’ Madness competition and in fact, these two went head to head in the final round. It’s Lightspeed Rescue’s Titanium Ranger & Jungle Fury’s Wolf Ranger!

This pair of keys was made to coincide with the Power Rangers Super Megaforce toyline and are entirely functional with the Legendary Morpher. When either key is used with the morpher the “Power Morphicon!” phrase is uttered and this special set is the only way to get either of these rangers in key form here in the US. Wolf Ranger, or rather his original counterpart Geki Violet, was released in the Gokaiger toyline some years back but the PMC exclusive is the only way to own an american version of the  key. Titanium Ranger however is a 100% original creation of the Power Rangers franchise! With no sentai counterpart he has never had a Ranger Key produced of him. So that makes this release truly special!

Check out a full 40 image gallery of this set after the jump by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post! Special thanks to site owner and admin Kickback for being awesome enough to pick this set up for me at PMC.

Dragonzord vs. Megazord by Marcelo Matere and Tom Chu

Posted on September 10, 2014 at 1:15 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con

Back at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, I contacted a good, old friend of mine from my days in the Transformers community from working for a decade at our sister site TFW2005.COM. His name is Marcelo Matere, and if you are, or were, a Transformers fan then you’ve seen his work – whether it be in comic books from both Dreamwave and IDW Publishing, to official box art work for Hasbro and their Transformers product. Knowing he has tremendous skill in drawing anything robotic in nature, I commissioned from him a Power Rangers piece – the Dragonzord fighting the original Megazord. Using nothing but pictures of toys for references, he hit the project out of the park! I wasn’t the only one who was impressed – even Bandai of America was impressed with his artwork.

In case you don’t remember the original story with the actual sketch – you can find it by clicking here.

We are incredibly pleased and proud to reveal the final version of this beautiful piece of artwork colored by comic book colorist Tom Chu, who has worked on various projects for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, IDW Publishing, and Archie Comics, as well as independent comics and official products for major toy companies. You may recognize his name from our very own Talkin Toku Podcast which he co-hosts, as well as being one of our administrators here at TokuNation.com under the name Sentai Tamashii, or even on Twitter as @SoulInkChu.

I think you will agree with us that this is one of the most impressive pieces of artwork for the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers that we’ve ever seen. And we are beyond excited to share with you in future updates higher resolution versions of this image (minus our watermark) for use as wallpapers and other such things.

Please take a moment and follow these incredibly talented individuals and show their work some love. And, if you happen to want something awesome drawn for you or colored for you, please don’t be shy in asking them about their commission prices. I can personally guarantee that you won’t be disappointed in their work!!

Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 015 – Talkin Toku is Back!

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 9:00 pm by Chris under Conventions, General Tokusatsu News, Kamen Rider, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

Talkin Toku is back!

After nearly 2 months since the last episode with your regular hosts, the boys of Talkin Toku return! Join Kickback, Den-O, and Sentai Tamashii in the all new, all different, all unedited and uncensored Talkin Toku!

Since the last full episode, Kickback and Den-O have gone to San Diego Comic Con, and Kickback then went to Power Morphicon. Listen to his reactions to the overall convention as we talk the good, the bad, and the ugly! Special shout-outs to some good friends made over the weekend – Dan’s Toku Rants, the Toku Ladies Podcast, Zeron Xepher, and Shukuen Shinobi, as well as the guys from Ranger Command Power Hour.

We also discuss some of the latest collectibles that have come out that we’ve purchased – S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Ryugen and S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Gridon – as well as discuss a lot of the upcoming Power Rangers Dino Charge toys and information from Power Morphicon to the present – including the rumor that Saban Brands isn’t interested in adapting Ressha Sentai ToQGer!

There’s also some brief discussion on Kamen Rider Drive – our hopes and our fears – as well as whether or not we’re going to go “all in” on the merchandise like we did with Kamen Rider Gaim (and have loved every wallet-draining moment).

Finally – it’s Gaim Time. The boys discuss everything so far in Kamen Rider Gaim up through episode 43 including some of the parallels that the show has with some other Hesei era Kamen Rider shows (spoilers right there). Will Micchy redeem himself? And do we want Micchy to redeem himself? And just who – and what – is Kamen Rider Jam? And our thoughts on whether or not the show ends on Episode 46 (the final episode written by Gen Urobuchi) or if it ends on Episode 47 (the rumored Kamen Rider Drive hand-off episode featuring Kamen Rider Jam).

Also – we want to give you guys free stuff. So we’re going to come up with ways to get free stuff, including the convention exclusive Super Megaforce Red Ranger key as well as a Mighty Morphin Green Ranger translucent key, and more importantly, an entire set of Season 2 S.H. Figuarts Akibarangers. Stay tuned for that and throw some suggestions out in our discussion thread! Check out the episode directly linked to this post below! (NOTE: You have to push play!)

See you in a couple of weeks!

S.H. Figuarts SDCC Armored Black Ranger Gallery

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 2:31 am by Den-O under Conventions, Power Rangers, San Diego Comic Con, Super Sentai

San Diego Comic-Con 2014 has come and gone, the TokuNation.com crew had a great time at the show, and of course we had to share a souvenir or two with you. So up today is our final entry (for now) in the long list of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger/Mighty Morphin Power Ranger’s galleries we’ve worked on for the last year. Today we look at the 2014 Exclusive SDCC Armored Black Ranger!

A unique product of the “Zyu2” footage created for MMPR season 1, Armored Black Ranger is a very unique toy as well. This figure shares the honor of being one of only two truly US exclusive MMPR related figuarts released here, along with the female bodied Yellow Ranger. Created in response to the demands of the US market Armored Black Ranger is a fantastic release that continues the tradition of quality and excellence that the Zyuranger/MMPR line of S.H. Figuarts releases has had from the beginning. Likely the last releases in this particular franchise of figures, Armored Black Ranger ends it in style. This awesome yet briefly seen form from the finale of MMPR season 1 “An Oyster Stew” is incredibly satisfying to finally own. If you have the chance to pick this figure up, we highly recommend it.

To check out the full 60 image gallery of this fantastic release, just click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. And while you’re at it, take a stroll down memory lane with us too! PMC2014 – Power Rangers Dino Charge 5″ Figures Pics

Posted on August 27, 2014 at 3:23 am by Chris under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

You didn’t think we were done did you? We took a ton of pictures of everything over the course of Power Morphicon 2014 and we’re still catching up! Alongside our previous pics of the upcoming Power Rangers Dino Charge Megazord, the Power Rangers Dino Charge Morpher and Sword, and the Power Rangers Dino Charge Bike with Red Ranger Figure, we are pleased to bring you 35 pictures of the upcoming 5″ Power Rangers Dino Charge Figures!

Important note right off the bat – these are painted prototypes. These are not finalized as of this exact moment and you will see in the pictures just how hand-painted they are. Their weapons are most likely going to be the bright neon yellow color that you see – it’s the same color used in the actual roleplay sword from an earlier picture gallery we did. While many are put off by super bright colors, I personally think it matches with the bright colors that this show is giving. It can’t be worse than pitch-black that we got with Power Rangers Super Megaforce.

The foot soldier and the Americanized version of DoGold do not have official names at the moment – simply “villain” and “foot soldier” for the time being. The amount of detailing on those two figures is pretty impressive – we especially love the attention to detail in what will be the first available figure for the DoGold character. All of this, of course, is from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, the series that is being adapted to create Power Rangers Dino Charge.

What are your thoughts? Join in our discussion on the forums. Are you going to pick up these 5″ figures? Do they look okay or do you think they need more detail? Sound off and let us know Ranger Nation!

PMC2014 – Custom Pyramidas by Famed Bandai Designer Tsuyoshi Nonaka

Posted on August 26, 2014 at 5:00 pm by Chris under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, Super Sentai

One of the most underrated guests from this year’s Power Morphicon was Tsuyoshi Nonaka, the man behind numerous designs and mechas from Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, and the creator of the Soul of Chogokin series of figures targeted to adult collectors. Tsuyoshi Nonaka was in attendance at this year’s Power Morphicon and brought with him a custom rebuild of the classic Power Rangers Zeo Pyramidas, which was the carrier zord of the Gold Ranger (or if you prefer, the Kingranger‘s mecha King Pyramidder).

Check out these images of the BEAUTIFUL custom by clicking the story title. Join in the discussion and share your thoughts! Don’t you think it’s time the Power Rangers community got some of the same amazing customizers that frequent the Transformers fandom?

PMC2014 – Power Rangers Dino Charge Megazord Pics and Info

Posted on August 26, 2014 at 2:25 am by Chris under Conventions, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers

One of the most debated items from this year’s San Diego Comic Con 2014 was the individual zords that make up the Power Rangers Dino Charge Megazord. As you may recall, the triceratops belonging to the Pink Ranger was colored purple, and the statement made to us was that a pink colored component on a toy targeted to boys wouldn’t sell. Thanks to ODot92 from RangerCrew.com, we learned that Bandai of America had changed their tune due to fan outrage and had decided to color it pink instead. As Power Morphicon went forward, Bandai of America changed their reasoning, saying that the triceratops was simply colored wrong from the manufacturer and was always meant to be pink. To showcase their change, it was purposely put at the front and middle of their display as every attendee walked in to the convention floor. What is the truth in the story? Who knows and frankly who cares – we have a pink triceratops again and that is all that matters!

Now, Bandai of America uses the Zord Builder feature on all their zords. That poses a slight problem with the Japanese counterpart from Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, which relies on the batteries to make the actual connection to the other zords. With that in mind, we asked Bandai of America what purpose the Chargers will have in the toy line since they will be sticking with the Zord Builder combination feature.

For starters, each zord will have a feature to be unlocked by using the charger. The Red Ranger‘s zord will have the “spike hairs” pop up, the Blue Ranger‘s zord will have the spikes on the back of the body stand up, and the Pink Ranger‘s zord will have the drill pop out from the tail. At this time, there are no plans to have the Chargers unlock sound in the Megazord.

Once again, if this is a deal breaker for you, we suggest importing the Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger version of this figure now before prices go up as they always tend to do when the Power Rangers version comes out. But please check out 40 images of the Power Rangers Dino Charge Megazord. We tried to get as many different angles of the combined form for you so you can make your own judgement on this upcoming figure. Please join our discussion thread and share your thoughts!
