2015 is officially coming to a close tonight for those of us in the US, and for many of our users around the world 2016 has already dawned! But before we can ring in the new year we wanted to find out what YOU thought about the toy releases of this past year. What were your Top Toku Toys of 2015?

Some of the staff got together recently to share their thoughts on what exactly the top toku toys of this year were. Our answers ranged from the inexpensive and fun 66Action figures, to S.H. Figuarts like Drive & Mach, all the way up the other end of the spectrum with S.H. Figuarts Tridoron!

We’ve included our picks after the jump below, you can see them by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. But please feel free to share what your favorite toku toys of 2015 were.

2016, here we come!

Magnet Change Robotack Gallery – Toku Toy Box Entry

Posted on December 17, 2015 at 9:58 am by Den-O under Contests and Giveaways, General Tokusatsu News, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

Toku Toy Box returns with yet another gallery of a classic toy! Picking up where we left off with our Superchange Kabutack DX Gallery we’re moving 1 year ahead to Kabutack’s follow up series, Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack, the final Metal Hero! Today’s gallery will focus on the series lead character in toy form, Magnet Change Robotack!

A revolutionary toy line, Robotack features my absolute favorite gimmick ever; Magnet (Jishakku) Change! Each figure in the line consisted of a central torso with detachable limbs each embedded with a magnet. Not only did this allow you transform each figure from it’s Normal Mode to Super Mode but every figure in the line was totally interchangeable with one another! Any number of unique combinations is possible. Robotack himself is a sturdy die-cast laden toy more than worth adding to your collection, especially for the low prices he’s available for today!

Click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post in order to view the entire 80 image gallery as well as a full review of this set! We’ve also included a short synopsis of Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack for those unfamiliar with the series. And remember that this gallery qualifies you for entry in our Toku Toy Box Giveaway! That means all you have to do is post something relevant to the conversation and you’re entered for a chance to win!

Superchange B-Robo Kabutack DX Set Gallery – Toku Toy Box Entry

Posted on December 14, 2015 at 9:30 pm by Den-O under Contests and Giveaways, General Tokusatsu News, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

Superchange!

Toku Toy Box is back with yet another vintage gallery for your viewing pleasure! Today we take a look back at a classic entry in the Metal Heroes franchise circa 1997-1998 with B-Robo Kabutack! And the toy of it’s titular hero, the Superchange Kabutack DX Set!

An often overlooked series, B-Robo Kabutack was the spiritual successor to the long forgotten Toei Fushigi Comedy series. A franchise marked by fun loving almost child like robots and their human allies. Examples being shows like Batten Robomaru, Morimori Bokkun, & Robot 8-Chan. Kabutack sat itself apart with some fantastic production values, a plot that borrows more than a little bit from Dragonball, and an absolutely fantastic gimmick for it’s toyline; Superchange! This DX Superchange set includes the fully transformable Kabutack as well as his 2 armors Drillut & Zabut, each sporting 3 different combinations with Kabutack!

Click “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post in order to view the entire 100 image gallery as well as a full review of this set! We’ve also included a short synopsis of B-Robo Kabutack for those unfamiliar. And remember that this gallery qualifies you for entry in our Toku Toy Box Giveaway! That means all you have to do is post something relevant to the conversation and you’re entered for a chance to win! We’ll be back very soon with another gallery related to this one, in the form of Kabutack’s succesor. The final Metal Heroes series, Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack!

Godaikin Machineman & Machine Dolphin Gallery – Toku Toy Box Entry!

Posted on December 1, 2015 at 9:56 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

We’re kicking off our annual Toku Toy Box giveaway with a vintage blast from the past! Released as a part of Bandai’s short lived American Godaikin toy line, today we take a look at the Machineman & Machine Dolphin set!

From the classic but often forgotten series Seiun Kamen Machineman, the Machine Dolphin vehicle can switch between 3 alternate modes. The standard Machine Dolphin supercar, Dolphin Jet, & the humanoid Dolphin Robo! Machineman himself can ride along in any of these modes as well! Machineman also comes packed with accessories like his Laser Saber & Throttle Gun, as well as his tiny sidekick Ball Boy! Both Machineman and this vehicle feature significant diecast content as well! A true classic the Machine Dolphin set reminds us of how creative and unique Toku Toys could once be.

If you have no experience with the Machineman series or character then have no fear! We’ve included a brief overview of both in the gallery below. Feel free to browse more than 50 images of the Godaikin Machineman & Machine Dolphin as well asa full review by clicking “Discuss on the The TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post!

Hasbro Partners with China to Create KRE-O Toys for Chinese Tokusatsu Armor Hero

Posted on November 16, 2015 at 11:58 am by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

This one is a little bit out of left field! For those who follow various or not-so-known tokusatsu series, the Armor Hero line from China is their own version of Super Sentai and/or Kamen Rider. Recently, the toys have picked up some popularity here in the United States with tokusatsu collectors, with the recent mech being considered a vast improvement from the last few years.

Today, during the Hasbro Investor’s Conference Call, Hasbro revealed that they have partnered with China to develop their line of building toys, known as KRE-O, for the Armor Hero series in China. These toys will be exclusive to China.

While this may not seem like huge news, in a way it is – Hasbro now has its hat in the ring with a tokusatsu series that rivals Bandai and TOEI. With a global partnership like this being created, one has to wonder … if the Power Rangers 2017 Movie is successful, does this partnership leave a door cracked open for potential Armor Hero showing in the United States?

Join the discussion! Special thanks to our sister site TFW2005.COM for the update!

Kagaku Sentai Dynaman BTS Video Featuring Machineman & Sharivan Released!

Posted on November 5, 2015 at 11:55 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, Metal Heroes, Super Sentai

You may recall that in 2013 some incredible behind the scenes footage of Gosei Sentai Dairanger made it’s way online via former Power Rangers stunt coordinator Jeff Pruit. This type of video is quite rare & often not shared with the general public. However one such behind the scenes video has been released today. Posted by youtube user kbigstone is an incredibly rare look behind the scenes of Kagaku Sentai Dynaman!

But that’s not all! This video was of course shot on the Toei studio lot, so multiple series were being filmed at the time. And while there’s no proper video of these other series the below video includes some rare stills from two other Toei productions. Seiun Kamen Machineman & Uchuu Keiji Sharivan! Specifically of the Machine Dolphin & Motosharian set props!

Dynaman, Machineman, & Sharivan just barely overlapped their filming schedules to make it possible to see them all on set at the same time. It’s a truly incredible video to watch. We rarely if ever see such behind the scenes prep as this. Please enjoy this video courtesy of youtube user kbigstone!
