Posted on December 9, 2016 at 11:44 am by Den-O under Contests and Giveaways, General Tokusatsu News, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates, TokuNation Spotlights

“Let our Janklers roar, we are Akumaizer 3!”

The classic 1975 Shotaro Ishinomori series Akumaizer 3 may not be something you’re familiar with, but today that changes with our special Toku Toy Box gallery of the S.I.C. Akumaizer 3!

The series stars Zabitan, a rogue member of the Demon Clan who has come to the human world in order to become a hero, as well as his initial pursuers but eventual allies Ibiru & Gabura. This MASSIVE S.I.C. three pack contains all 3 members of the team as well as multiple heads & hands for Ibiru & Zabitan. But that’s not all! The trio’s signature Sabres, Zarad Irad & Garad are all included, and Ibiru’s Jo Gun and Gabura’s Mace & Axe are all included as well! This truly comprehensive release is the perfect fit for any fan of this series, or in fact obscure Tokusatsu in general. We have a brief overview of this show in the gallery thread.

We’ve attached a selection of images to this post but you can check out over 90 images of the incredible S.I.C. Akumaizer 3 set after the jump by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation” Forums at the bottom of this post.

Moero Robocon DX Slotroid 01 Robocon Gallery

Posted on November 19, 2016 at 2:32 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

“Ganbare Robocon!!”

It’s time for another overdue trip down memory lane! In the past we here at TokuNation have shown you some truly odd & interesting figures from Tokusatsu history. Kamen Rider, Metal Heroes, and even some one-off toku shows that are no more. Today we’re taking a look at a vintage piece from the classic 1999 series Moero Robocon with DX Slotroid 01 Robocon!

Moero Robocon is actually a reboot of the even older 1974 original series Ganbare Robocon. Technically, Moero Robocon even serves as the final entry in the long running Metal Hero series (more on that in the full review). But enough about the show, here’s the toy! DX Robocon was an innovative figure for it’s time. Robocon featured a built in electronic minigame that allowed him to physically interact with another figure in the line as well a special “super mode” transformation. This diminutive robot is definitely more fun that you’d initially think.

We’ve attached a selection of images to this article but you can view the full 40 images by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post.

Fujiyama Ichiban Ultimate – Feature Film Kickstarter

Posted on November 8, 2016 at 10:51 am by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

If you’ve been to the last couple Official Power Morphicons then you’ve no doubt seen the folks from Fujiyama Ichiban – a tokusatsu web series on YouTube created in the United States by former staff of Super Sentai from Japan and Big Bad Beetleborgs from Saban Entertainment.

Their next goal – to bring about a feature film with a theme geared towards adults! Joining the team of Fujiyama Ichiban is Michi Yamato. You may not know him by name but you’ve likely seen some of the series that he’s been involved in – various Kamen Rider and Super Sentai series including Bioman and Space Sheriff Gavan. Upon moving to the United States, he joined the team of Saban’s Masked Rider and Big Bad Beetleborgs, and has since done work on such big films like Hugh Jackman’s The Wolverine.

On the design team for the suits is Kenichi Muraeda, known for his work on the Kamen Rider spirits manga as well as designer for Kikaider: Reboot.

Illustrator and project-backing toy designer is Tsuyoshi Nonaka, whose previous works include Power Rangers series design working with Bandai America and Bandai Japan.

A number of other individuals with histories working with the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series are involved, from stunts to costume and prop making. VFX contributors include individuals who have worked on movies such as Harry Potter and Transformers. Michi Yamato states that while working for TOEI or Saban there were rules they had to follow – no stabbing, no blood, and no kicks to anywhere but the chest. With this, a realistic tokusatsu hero can be born with fight scenes that make more sense to the modern adult.

There are a number of great rewards you can choose from. The project is seeking a grand total of $137,000 USD in order to meet the costs of pre-production and post-production. Michi Yamato has commented on everything from why he wants to do this to why he’s seeking that amount of money and a breakdown of where all the funds would go.

Do yourself a favor and check it out – click here to see the Fujiyama Ichiban Ultimate Kickstarter page! If you’ve seen their stunt shows at the Official Power Morphicon then you know what amazing things they can do! Support if you can and best of luck to the Fujiyama Ichiban team!

Tamashii Nations 2016: Bandai Teases Redman Figure

Posted on October 27, 2016 at 12:14 pm by Den-O under Conventions, General Tokusatsu News, Other Conventions, Ultraman

Redman. The often forgotten violent step-child of the Ultra family looks to finally be receiving a figure of some kind. At it’s currently ongoing Tamashii Nations 2016 event Bandai has just release a teaser silhouette of a Redman figure. We can only assume that it will be an S.H. Figuart given that’s the trend with Ultraman characters.

For a little clarification, if you don’t know Redman, here’s the scoop. Redman starred in a short mini-series from 1972 comprised of 138 5-minute long episodes and was primarily known for rather violently executing his enemies. Kaiju which were culled from Ultraman productions to cut costs. It seems that this figure is being made largely in part thanks to Tsuburaya streaming the entire series on it’s youtube channel recently.

As more information becomes available about the Redman figure this weekend we’ll update this story. Stay tuned to TokuNation for all of your Tamashii Nations 2016 updates!

Talkin Toku Announces Return – Large Group of Fandom Contributors

Posted on July 27, 2016 at 11:00 am by Chris under General Tokusatsu News

A few years ago, Kickback, Den-O, and Sentai Tamashii/Soulink decided to create a podcast centered around tokusatsu. It was originally called “Talkin Toku at the Nation“, and then shortened at some point for reasons that escape us to “Talkin Toku“. But – life happens, and Kickback and Den-O were blessed with the ability to start their own families, and the time just wasn’t there anymore to consistently release professional podcasts in a timely manner. The final episode was released in February, and all archives went dark in March of this year.

However – you can’t always keep a nerd quiet, and the urge to continue to talk about these things was too great. Thus, a new joint project between Kickback of TokuNation.com and Jmann of CollectionDX.com has resulted in the revival of Talkin Toku. Check out the announcement video below.

The planned launch episode will release the first week of September. Contributors to the show include Kickback, Den-O, Sentai Tamashii/Soulink of TokuNation.com, Jmann of CollectionDX.com, Trekkieb47 and HollywoodZ from the Ranger Command Power Hour podcast, Dan Pearce from Dan’s Toku Rants, The Ranger Talk, baltmatrix, Vangelus, Shukuen Shinobi, and ZeronXepher.

Please check out the official Talkin Toku YouTube channel and subscribe! You don’t want to miss some of the stuff we have planned!

Talkin Toku is now an independent enterprise created by and operated by Kickback and Jmann. Videos shown on this website, or any website, are simply for promotional purposes to help spread the word. To contact Talkin Toku, please visit the official Facebook page or the official @TalkinToku Twitter page. You can also E-mail us at talkintoku (at) gmail (dot) com.

Uncoloured prototypes have been seen at previous Wonderfests, but this is the first time these Pacific Rim Jaegers have been seen in colour and with more concrete release info. These 1/350 scale model kits do not currently have a set price, however according to the information on their display cards both kits will be released in December!

Planning to add these figures to your collection? Be sure to comment after the jump!

S.H. Figuarts Body-Kun Gray DX Set Gallery

Posted on July 7, 2016 at 3:07 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

You’ve seen them throughout the years at various Tamashii Nations events and wondered “when can I buy those?!” No it’s not the long lost prototypes of the SWAT Dekarangers or Rio & Mele. But the Blank figures we’ve all come to know. Used to showcase new body & articulation sculpts as well as Tamashii Effects we all wondered if these unique figures would ever be released. Now, they have. So today we’re taking an extensive look at S.H. Figuarts Body-Kun (Gray) DX Set!

Body-Kun is a wonderfully generic figure. The basis for any custom you desire, the subject of any photograph you can imagine, and the ultimate piece of reference for an artist. Body-Kun & the simultaneously released Body-Chan are perhaps the most uninhibited and fun figuarts I’ve ever handled. Loaded down with a plethora of accessories including a multitude of hands, weapons, and every day devices, this seemingly lifeless faceless figure manages to express more in body language alone than most other figuarts ever can.

We’ve attached a selection of images to this post but you can view the full 60+ image gallery by clicking “Discuss on the TokuNation Forums” at the bottom of this post. I had a lot of fun shootinhg this gallery, more than I ever anticipated. So I hope you enjoy it.
