SH Figuarts Black Beet Price & Release Date Revealed

Posted on September 22, 2014 at 7:03 am by Paladin under General Tokusatsu News

Another gem from the new magazine scans: we now have our first look at the villainous Black Beet from Juukou B-Fighter – better known to Western audiences as Shadow Borg from Big Bad Beetleborgs or perhaps as General Venjix in Power Rangers Wild Force.

Black Beet will be available in March 2015 and cost 5814 Yen. Sadly it appears this evil robot is a Tamashii Web Exclusive, requiring a middleman to purchase. Interested fans, keep an eye on preorder sites or contact your preferred buyer if you wish to add Black Beet to your shelf!

Talkin Toku Episode 016 Released – Prelude to Gaim Finale!

Posted on September 20, 2014 at 4:51 pm by Chris under General Tokusatsu News, Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

It’s time for another episode of Talkin Toku!

Join Kickback, Den-O, Sentai Tamashii, and special guest host Danny as they discuss their thoughts and feelings about the upcoming finale of one of the most well-received toku series in recent memory – Kamen Rider Gaim!

In the toy talk segment they discuss the hunt for Power Rangers Super Megaforce 5″ Figures at their local Walgreens, as well as their reactions to the Kamen Rider Gaim Overlord weapons in the upcoming release of the Arms Change Kamen Rider Ryugen Yomi Arms figure.

Conversation is lost when … well, the graphic in the story will make a lot more sense. Around 20 minutes in the fact we’re unscripted with no clear direction rears its ugly head as conversation changes to Chuck E Cheese?

But take a listen – find out who is right, who is wrong, and who was way off base when the Kamen Rider Gaim live stream airs later this afternoon and releases via sub groups next week!

There’s also a bit of talk about Power Rangers Dino Charge, a small wishlist for the 2015 Super Sentai series, and more stuff!

Enjoy the episode and we’ll see you on the flip side of the series finale of Kamen Rider Gaim in a little over a week!

Happy Birthday Kickback!

Posted on September 13, 2014 at 1:13 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, TokuNation, TokuNation Spotlights

And you thought VR Troopers, Syber-Squad, & Power Rangers anniversaries were the only milestones this month!

The one and only Kickback’s birthday is today! Of course Kickback AKA Chris is the the founder of TokuNation itself and the man behind everything since it’s inception. A lot of you know him from the TFW2005 forums and his work in the Transformer fandom over  the last decade. But luckily he jumped ship and created this place for all of us to enjoy and share! It’s safe to say that a lot of us wouldn’t have a welcoming environment to discuss our spandex heroes, bug men, giant monsters, toys, and everything else in between without Kickback’s hard work for us over the last 3 years.

So please take a moment out of your day to wish one of my best friends in the world, Kickback, a happy birthday! TokuNation is what it is thanks to you buddy!

Celebrate 20 Years of Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad

Posted on September 12, 2014 at 9:15 pm by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

With a recent anniversary for VR Troopers, you may not have realized another series premiered only a week later in 1994. Celebrating it’s 20th Anniversary today is Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad! Unlike the majority of other 90’s tokusatsu this series was not a Saban production nor was it adapted from a Toei series. Syber-Squad was brought to the US by DIC-Entertainment and was in fact adapted from the Tsuburaya series Denkou Choujin Gridman. The focus was on our main hero Sam Collins who transformed into the digital hero Servo, and along with Team Samurai would enter the digital world to fight the forces of the evil Kilokahn Artificial Intelligence.

Though the series never quite had the staying power of it’s Saban competitors Syber-Squad actually still has a decent following today. The original Japanese releases of the DX toy line have become just as expensive if not more so than many Sentai toys released in the same era. And even items from the American counterpart toy line produced by Playmates can still command a high price on the secondary market. Just last year Mill Creek Entertainment released the entirety of Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad on two DVD sets that can be easily found around the $10 range now.

Take a moment to reflect on Syber-Squad and it’s impact on the western toku market, and while you’re at it check out some previous galleries we’ve posted relating to the series:

Action Works Metalder Gallery In Honor of VR Troopers 20th Anniversary!

Posted on September 9, 2014 at 1:42 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News, Metal Heroes

It’s time to take a moment out of your busy schedule to celebrate VR Troopers recent 20th Anniversary!  Although this series may not be like the Power Rangers juggernaut of today, it’s still a classic! Spliced together from 3 Metal Heroes shows (Chojinki Metalder, Jikku Senshi Spielban, & Uchuu Keiji Shaider) VR Troopers was one unique product. The biggest reasons why the show still gets love is the very awesome actor who played Ryan Steele, Brad Hawkins, whom you may also know as the voice of the Zeo Gold Ranger! In honor of this  momentous occasion TokuNation is proud to present the Action Works Chojinki Metalder gallery!

Released in Japan in September 2009, coincidentally then VR’s 15th anniversary, Action Works Metalder should appeal to any fan of VR Troopers or Metalder. Though not an S.H. Figuart, Action Works Metalder is more than on par with that line even by today’s standards. There’s no way of knowing when or if we’ll see S.H. Figuarts Metalder/Ryan  Steele from Bandai so for now this figure is the perfect stand it for any collection. Though it’s 5 years old it faithfully recreates the incredible Metalder suit perfectly and includes a compliment of great accessories such as his signature Katana and his robotic partner/brother Springer!

VR Troopers turned 20 this year and despite not having much in the way of new merchandise to support it, love for the series is always growing. For now, throw your support behind an awesome guy and follow Brad Hawkins on Twitter @VRBradHawkins. And be sure check out 60 images of this amazing figure after the jump with more than a couple group shots to make Metal Heroes & Saban Heroes fans very happy.

Talkin Toku Podcast Episode 015 – Talkin Toku is Back!

Posted on September 3, 2014 at 9:00 pm by Chris under Conventions, General Tokusatsu News, Kamen Rider, Power Morphicon, Power Rangers, Super Sentai, TokuNation, TokuNation Site Updates

Talkin Toku is back!

After nearly 2 months since the last episode with your regular hosts, the boys of Talkin Toku return! Join Kickback, Den-O, and Sentai Tamashii in the all new, all different, all unedited and uncensored Talkin Toku!

Since the last full episode, Kickback and Den-O have gone to San Diego Comic Con, and Kickback then went to Power Morphicon. Listen to his reactions to the overall convention as we talk the good, the bad, and the ugly! Special shout-outs to some good friends made over the weekend – Dan’s Toku Rants, the Toku Ladies Podcast, Zeron Xepher, and Shukuen Shinobi, as well as the guys from Ranger Command Power Hour.

We also discuss some of the latest collectibles that have come out that we’ve purchased – S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Ryugen and S.H. Figuarts Kamen Rider Gridon – as well as discuss a lot of the upcoming Power Rangers Dino Charge toys and information from Power Morphicon to the present – including the rumor that Saban Brands isn’t interested in adapting Ressha Sentai ToQGer!

There’s also some brief discussion on Kamen Rider Drive – our hopes and our fears – as well as whether or not we’re going to go “all in” on the merchandise like we did with Kamen Rider Gaim (and have loved every wallet-draining moment).

Finally – it’s Gaim Time. The boys discuss everything so far in Kamen Rider Gaim up through episode 43 including some of the parallels that the show has with some other Hesei era Kamen Rider shows (spoilers right there). Will Micchy redeem himself? And do we want Micchy to redeem himself? And just who – and what – is Kamen Rider Jam? And our thoughts on whether or not the show ends on Episode 46 (the final episode written by Gen Urobuchi) or if it ends on Episode 47 (the rumored Kamen Rider Drive hand-off episode featuring Kamen Rider Jam).

Also – we want to give you guys free stuff. So we’re going to come up with ways to get free stuff, including the convention exclusive Super Megaforce Red Ranger key as well as a Mighty Morphin Green Ranger translucent key, and more importantly, an entire set of Season 2 S.H. Figuarts Akibarangers. Stay tuned for that and throw some suggestions out in our discussion thread! Check out the episode directly linked to this post below! (NOTE: You have to push play!)

See you in a couple of weeks!

S.H. Figuarts White Crow, Hakaider’s Bike, Revealed

Posted on August 21, 2014 at 12:45 am by Den-O under General Tokusatsu News

This gorgeous ride will go perfectly with the soon to be released S.H. Figuarts Hakaider.

S.H. Figuarts White Crow is of course the personal rider of this evil Showa menace from the Kikader TV series! Soon to be release as a Tamashii Web Exclusive, White Crow will retail for 5940 yen, and will be released in February. Most SHF bikes don’t include a ton of accessories so we’ll have to wait and see if this one does. As is though it is one sweet classic ride for an even more classic villain.
